English Hamptons

Hello World!-Blog 1En

I am Yuka Silvera, and welcome to my blog! I am so grateful to my amazing friend Courtney of Darling Design Inc. for helping me to start the site!

The summer is officially ending today in the Hamptons, as the rental season ends on Labor Day weekend. The “summer people” are migrating back to the city, and the towns will be quiet after Tuesday. The air will feel fresher without so many cars!

I love September. It’s the beginning of a new season. This time of year makes me want to do something positive. Something new. It’s the perfect time to get rid of clutter, clean, and reorganize around the house to make good energy flow. I do the same for myself too, to attract positive energy around me. I learned that everything is energy, including humans. When you’re happy or excited, you’re sending out positive energy, and it attracts positive energy and good things. When you’re upset or depressed, it will have the opposite effect. So I’m trying to be in “good spirit” as much as I can!

I took some time off from work this summer, and aside from my usual chauffeur duty for my daughter, I tried some new things.

MUSIC-I’ve mastered the bass score on Save a Prayer by my FAVORITE band, DURAN DURAN, and I’m now practicing Call Me, by Blondie, which I played at middle school. I hadn’t really played since high school (I named my girls’ band Cherry Ice Cream from Duran’s song Rio) and my fingers didn’t move well at first. I didn’t understand how I was able to play before! But after practicing about fifty times a day (making my family crazy) now I can play better. I am so glad Courtney asked me to jam with her guitar. It’s fun to play with your friends over a cocktail or two, or three. I’m also practicing piano that I hadn’t really played since middle school. Courtney wants to play Guns N’ Roses’ November Rain, I chose piano because it’s so beautiful and much more fun than the bass line.

WRITING- I’ve been wanting to write a memoir. But my fear was holding me back. Who would want to read my story? I’m nobody. Maybe if I win an Oscar (which was my dream), I will write it. I need a good ending like that. But my sweet Angel card reader Kathy Bradley and my great astrologer James Haigney said that I was wrong. I should write to help others. My intuition says the same. If I can be helpful even for one reader, it would be worth a try. So, taking James’ good advice to get help to write, I took the Art of Creative Writing work shop at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill. There, I met six kind intelligent women who were sweet and encouraged me to write about my life too. I learned a lot, and the best thing was to know some people are interested in reading my story simply because I’m from a different country. My English is not perfect, but they were very patient. As the teacher said, writing is a great way to improve my English. It also helps to organize my mind.

TENNIS- I am an indoor creature, and never watch sports on TV. But recently, I went to a birthday party with a tennis tournament, and I thought tennis looked like a good social opportunity. Besides, I’ve always wanted to wear cute skort!! With a help of my cool friend Holly, I took two half hour private lessons at the Ross School Tennis Academy where she works. I found learning tennis is like learning dance steps! It was fun, and I might be a natural because the young and beautiful instructor was surprised how well I played for the first time! We’ll see…! Nana(My mother-in law) said it’s a little too late to start now, but I disagree~

I don’t know if I can continue to do all these when I’m working and taking care of my family after tomorrow. But Courtney inspired me with her great energy this time. She made all the changes on my site in seconds, while she works, takes care of her small children, and the house always looks neat! She even have the time to practice her guitar and teach her daughter to play it too..!

I’ll try to reorganize my day and get things done more efficiently. There is so much I want to do now, no time to waste!
